Cutting always takes place parallel to the axis of the log and is called „ to saw”. Companies which cut/saw logs are called sawmills. There are two different kind of sawmills. The ones which cut coniferous wood (softwood) and the ones which cut leafwood (hardwood). Depending on the kind of machine used, there a mills with frame saw, log band saw or profiling saw technology. The quality of the sawn timber not only depends on the technology of cutting but even more on the soil/area/climate the trees grow.
